Canadian Open - First Round

The weather held off until the last hole. With showers and storms in the forecast for the entire day, we caught a break and played 17 holes without rain. But when the rain came, it came hard and fast. We played the 18th hole in a downpour and by the time we reached the green, it was under water and unplayable. After about a 30 minute delay, the greens staff was able to squeegee the green and we were able to putt and finish the round.

Kevin got off a nice start. He only missed one fairway and one green on the front nine. Even though he had a number of lip outs, we still made three birdies. A bogey on the tough par 3 (6th) was our only bogey and we turned at 2 under par.

The back nine we struggled with the ball striking. We only hit two fairways and one green on the back nine but Kevin's short game kept us it. We only made one bogey on the back and we were able to get it in at one under par (69). Frustrated with how things turned with his ball striking, Kevin showed a lot of guts today. We are not going to hit it well everyday/all day so the importance of a solid short game shined through today. I was proud of him.

We tee off tomorrow on number 10 at 8:50. Rain and storms are in the forecast again. Lets hope we can catch another break with the weather.
